Dunlop Bay Residence
Hampton Bays, New York
Overlooking the Shinnecock Bay, the long thin site has beautiful views of the water that overlook the wetlands and beach. The existing house is tired and outdated and has no relationship to the site.
The existing structure was well constructed and is in good condition. The intention is to use as much of the existing structure as possible and build "on top" and reinvent the house.
A steep roof rises to the east and the bay. The living spaces are arranged below with continuous views of the water and a 2 story Living room. The Master Bedroom sits above with a trellised porch that overlooks the water. Under the center and lowest portion of the roof are the entry, stairs and utility spaces. This area connects the 2 wings of the house. A long low sloping roof rises to west and covers the bedroom wing which is built on top of the existing Garage. A full story Bunk Bed room is placed at the end and is cantilevered over the entry courtyard.
A pool and pool house are placed on the south side of the house and are surrounded by wood decks and natural vegetation.
White stucco covers the lower areas of the house with dark stained vertical red cedar siding covering the upper surfaces that contrast and hold up the long white edges of the roof.
