Hampton Bays, New York
The proposed House expands an existing Family compound. The adjacent Cottage has been in the Family for many years and decided to build a new house that could accommodate their growing needs and future retirement years. The Clients have a deep nostalgia for the Clubhouse at the local Shinnecock National Golf Course, which is a great example of the local shingle style vernacular. The proposed House is 2,100 sq.ft. and is sited on the lot north of the Cottage and use the southern exposure to open onto the adjacent property and summer sun. The front of the house has a low Entry porch and single car Garage. Natural eastern white cedar shake siding will be accented by simple white trim, fascia and soffits. The board and batten stair wall on the north façade will be barn red. A Guest Bedroom, Laundry Room and interior connection to the Garage flank the Entry Foyer and Hall. The Living/Dining Kitchen area is an open plan and is placed along the south-facing window wall and Courtyard. The 2-story living space has a bridge above that connects the 2 Master Bedroom suites above. The design and materials will exceed all required energy standards and be supported by a 7 kw PV array. Construction will begin in September of 2016.
